“My work is a reflection of my life — of the vibrant colours and tantalizing shapes of the Caribbean”
I was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and attended the Edna Manley School of Visual Arts where I developed my passion for painting. Since relocating to Petworth, West Sussex, with my husband and daughter,l have taken part in two Felpham Art Trails and two well-received exhibitions at the OxMarket Galleries in Chichester.
I work mainly in oils, creating a wide range of works from room dividing screens and murals to commercial works which include decorated construction site boardings, hotel murals, friezes, and bar fronts. My work is on display at several hotels in Negril, Jamaica, including large cutwork murals “Sea Grape” and “Royal Palm” both measuring an impressive 7′ x 12′. I also have work in private collections in the UK and overseas.
I also work in acrylic, glass paint and charcoal, and have experimented with household emulsion, gloss and enamel.
The imagery in my paintings is very much a reflection of my life in the Caribbean where I was surrounded by lush tropical vegetation; I am able to use the huge range of vibrant colours and tantalizing shapes of tropical plant life that have come to be engraved on my mind to express some of my feelings about the island of my birth – bittersweet nostalgia for a undercurrents of suffering and loss.
